IPL: Chennai scores a breezy win over Mumbai!

chennaiIN IPL, league match, though Mumbai team scored a healthy 183 runs, Chennai team passed that score very easily.

9th IPL league championship is in progress with matched in several cities.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Bangalore Royal Challengers, Rajasthan Royals, King’s XI Punjab, Hyderabad Sunrisers, and Dlehi Daredevils are participating.

Every team has to play each other twice (once at home & once away). Teams in the top 4 places in the poits table at the end of the league matches will qualify for play-off for final.

12th IPL league match was played between Mumbai & Chennai.

Chennai played an unchaged team. Mumabi te4am replaced injured Aaron Finch Lendl Simons. Shreyas Goyal & Unmukchand were dropped and Ambatti Rayudu & Harbhajan Singh was included.

Shaky start!

Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat. Parthiv Patel & Lendl Simons opened. Chennai opening bowler, Asish Nehra, excelled in swing bowling  ad dismissed Parthiv Patel in the first over itself. Corey Anderson, who came next, got out to Asish Nehra again giving a difficult catch to DuPlusseys. Lendl Simons also got out after scoring 5 runs.

Sharp bowling & fielding by Chennai upset Mumbai’s progress. It lost 3 wickets while scoring only 12 runs. The team consultant, legendary Tendulakr, watched this with shock.

However, Chennai bowlers did not take advantage of their excellent start. Harbhajan Singh, who was sent earlier in the batting order, scored 24 runs off 12 balls with 24’sd & 1 6. However, Mumbai had progressed only to 62 runs for 4 wickets at the end of 10th over.

Captian Rohit Sharma & Koeron Pollard got into the middle. They reversed the trend of the game completely! Pollard hit 3 6;s in one over from Ravindra Jadeja.

Mumbai fans became enthusiastic watching Rohit Sharma & Pollard fireworks. These 2 batsmen took complete control of the game and destroyed Chennai bowling.

When the score was 132, Rohit Sharma got out aft5er scoring 50 runs off 31 balls with 5 4’sw & 1 6. Pollard scored his 50 immediately after. Ambatti Rayudu, who had joined Pollard was also aggressive. The score surpassed expectations.

Rayudud scored 29 (16 balls, 1 4 , & 3 6’s). Pollard scored 64 (30 balls, 4 4’s, and 5 6’s).

Mumbai scored 183 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.Asish Nehra took 3 wickets and Dwayne Bravo took 2 wickets.

With the victory target of 184, Dwayne Smith & Brendon McCullum opened Chennai innings. They hit Mumbai bowlers Pavan Kayal, Lasith Malinga, and Sujith all over the ground.

During the ‘Power Play’ of first 6 overs, they scored 90 runs and thrilled the crowd. This is the second highest runs scored during a power play period in IPL records. Dwayne Smith reached his 50 in 22 balls.

Spinner Harbhajan brought this whirlwind partnership to an end. Brendon McCullum scored 46 (20 balls, 6 4’s, and 2 6’s). Dwayne Smith got out after scoring 62 (30 balls, 8 4’s, and 4 6’s).

With the soild opening partnership laying the platform, Chennai’s task was simplified. Bob DuPlessey scored 11 runs and skipper Dhoni scored only 3 runs. Still, Suresh Raina played steady with Dwayne Bravo and took the team to victory. Bravo finished the match with a 6!

Chennai Super Kings scored 189 runs for 4 wickets in 16.4  overs and won by 6 wickets. Raina was not out at 42 (29 balls, 4 4’s, and 2 6,’s), Bravo scored 13 not out.

Chennai team scored a hat-trick of wins (3 successive victories in IPL League matches) having won earlier against Delhi & Hyderabad.

For Mumbai, it was the 4th successive defeat.

Chennai plays its next league match against Rajasthan at Ahmedabad tomorrow (Sunday, 19th April).
