An event of distribution of financial and other assistance for mental patients was organised under the Tamil Nadu State Rural Development & Resurgence Scheme at Gudiyatham Thiruvalluvar High School.
Vellore district collector, Mr. R. Nandhagopal, presided over the event.
While addressing the gathering for the event, the district collector informed that mental disorder should not be considered as a disease. There are several ways to treat this. Continuous treatment will definitely cure.
Medicines prescribed by the doctors should be administered regularly without fail. They require affectionate care from their parents and other family members.
All senior officials of concerned departments participated.
To improve the living standards of 25 mentally ill patients, an interest-free loan of Rs. 7500/- each was given for a total of Rs. 1,87,500/-.

He also gave tree saplings to 50 persons and some equipment for the mentally ill persons to start self-business.
Out of the 15 mentally affected persons who were sent to Kilpauk mental hospital, Chennai a few months ago, 7 persons have recovered completely and returned.
