The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is committed to passing of the Women’s Bill in the Lok Sabha.
Providing one-third reservation for women in Parliament, said Jayanthi Natarajan, Union Minister for Environment and Forests, here on Saturday.
She was inaugurating a half-yearly Standing Committee Meeting of the All India Women’s Conference (AIWC) on the VIT University campus.
G. Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor, wanted the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act to be amended and increase the age up to which free and compulsory education should be given to 20 or 22 so that every student would have access to higher education.
The AIWC has declared 2013 as the year of elimination of all kinds of atrocities against women.
