MLA Ravi inspected the progress on the substation installation project at Arkonam being set up at a cost of Rs. 8 Crores.
The project of setting up a substation is in progress. MLa & the senior electricity officials visited the site, monitored the progress and instructed for expediting to complete.
MLA spoke to the correspondents after inspection. He informed that the substation is being set up at a cost of Rs. 8 Crores to ensure steady supply of electric power to the 36 wards in Arkonam at a regulated voltage level.
Funds were allotted for this project 3 years ago but as there was elay in locating the place for the project within the corporation zone, there were no activities. MLA spoke in the assembly about this several times. CM kindly arranged to procure land from private owners to the EB authorities.
Subsequently, EB bought 20 cents of land at Kalivarikandigai at a cost Rs. 1.49 Crores to set up the substation. Construction activities for the substation commenced and are in progress. 41 new transformers have been installed in Arkonam. Another 39 new transformers are being installed. The old cables/conductors in the city have been removed and are being replaced with new.
The substation being set up is automatic. A transformer with a capacity of 8 MW will be set up shortly.
After this, the low voltage problem currently experienced will be solved permanently.
CM Jayalalithaa will inaugurate the new substation.
