The State Government is very keen on mono rail project since the time J Jayalalithaa became the Chief Minister.The metro expansion could mean going slow on the monorail project or developing it as a feeder line for high-capacity metro rail lines. The state has so far provided 3,060.74 crore towards share capital and subordinate debt, besides loan support of 3,864.83 crore from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Work on metro rail began in 2009 following a detailed project report by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
