Kannan Poonga, a park located near the Arcot Nagar Bus terminus, which was lying thoroughly neglected, has been renovated at a cost of Rs. 30 Lakhs.
It wqill be opened for public in a short time.
Arcot city is one of the most important cities in Vellore district.
As this is a trading centre, a lot of traders and public visit the city.Apart from this, there are reputed service organisations carrying out great work in the fields of education, health, and spiritualism.
Arcot is the first city which set up a project for generation of electric power from vegetable & fruit waste. This would be the first city to implement the scheme of segregating waste as bio-degradable & non-bio-degradable.
As the city was lacking an entertainment spots, a park, called ‘Kannan Poonga’ was created near the city bus terminus.
.However, due to improper maintenance, anti-social activities proliferated. The park was also quite unclean and the public stayed away from it.
With persistent efforts led by Arcot MLA, Mr. A V K R Srinivasan, Kannan Poonga of 0.75 acre area was taken up for renovation with the public contribution at a cost of Rs. 30 Lakhs.
A compound wall has also been built. Facilities such as pavements for walking exercise, playgrounds, seats/benches for relaxing, and plenty of plants, trees, and creepers giving shadows have all been provided.
The park is now all set to be reopened for public in a function to be presided by MP K Hari & MLA Srinivasan on 22nd March.
Social enthusiasts expect the public to cooperate fully to maintain the park properly and using it properly.
