Vellore Collector Rajendra Ratnoo on Monday inspected drinking water works being executed in Vellore Corporation, Perumugai village panchayat and Melvisharam Municipality and directed the officials concerned to expedite the completion of works and ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the residents.
Mr. Ratnoo inspected the works on drilling deep borewells, installation of a power pump and laying pipelines for pumping water to an overhead tank (OHT) at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh each in Annanagar in Pilliarkuppam, and Indira Nagar in Perumugai village panchayat under the State Disaster Management Scheme.
He directed the panchayat development officials and the Block Development Officers concerned to complete the work within 15 days and start supplying drinking water to the residents.
He also inspected the completed work of supplying drinking water through deep borewells drilled at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh each in wards 15 and 42 of Vellore Corporation under the same scheme.
The Collector enquired with the residents of Gandhinagar in Katpadi taluk about the scheme of supplying drinking water from a two lakh-litre capacity ground level reservoir established at a cost of Rs. 9 lakh.
He inspected the work of supplying water through ‘metro model’ tanks installed in 18 places in wards 22, 23 and 24 in Sathuvachari in Vellore Corporation at a cost of Rs. 9 lakh.
He also inspected the availability of drinking water and the distribution of water from the headworks of the Corporation in Thengal in Ponnai and directed the Corporation Commissioner Janaki to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the residents of Vellore from the headworks.
Mr. Ratnoo also inspected the work of formation of two infiltration wells in the Palar River bed at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crore in Melvisharam Municipality under the Integrated Urban Development Scheme. Noting that 75 per cent of the work has been completed, he directed the officials to expedite the completion of the work and ensure uninterrupted supply of water to the residents.
Ms. Janaki, Vellore Corporation Commissioner; Antony, Commissioner of Melvisharam Municipality; Neelakandan, Municipal Engineer; Easwaran, Assistant Director of Village Panchayats, Vellore; Saravanan, Assistant Director of Village Panchayats, Tirupattur; and Leopaul Nirmal Kumar and Uma, Block Development Officers, accompanied the Collector during the inspections.
