Following protests by residents of surrounding areas of Kodangaiyur dump yard, police arrested 17 people who were allegedly responsible.The residents protested burning of garbage in the dump and said that the smoke was affecting life in the area.
The residents of Sasirekamma Nagar, Krishnamurthy Nagar, Kannadasan Nagar and Rajarathman Nagar protested on Tondiarpet High Road on Sunday. According to a resident, ‘For the past few days, there has been fire continuously. During nights, the smoke is causing poor visibility. We have staged several protests, but found no solution so far. We were told that a fire tender would be stationed there throughout day and night to put out the fire. But on Sunday morning, even the fire personnel refused to go in as there was no road.’
