State Level Eligibility Test’, (SLET) is conducted by the SLET commission. The post-graduates especially are extremely disappointed at the delay in the announcement of the results of SLET.
A compulsory pass in SLET (State Level) or NET exam (country level) is required to join as ‘Assistant Professor’ in any college or university.
Those who have passed NET (National Eligibility Test) can work anywhere in India.
However, those who have passed SLET can work only in a particular state. A university will be accorded 3 years to conduct SLET. As per this routine, the authority to conduct SLET has been given to Coimbatore Bharathiyar University. Prior to this Trichy Bharathidasan University conducted the SLET.
Kodaikkakanl Mother Theresa University will conduct SLET from 2015 till 2018 for 3 years.
Approval for this was granted by Tamil Nadu State Government by April itself. However, even after 3 months, no announcements have been about SLET. Post-graduates are bitterly disappointed about this undue delay.
NET is being conducted twice a year in June & December. Until last June, UGC (University Grants Commission) was conducting these tests. However, from December 2014, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has been conducting NET.
Students from Tamil Nadu are quite eager that SLET also must be conducted twice a year. They expect that announcement on SLET must be made immediately without any further delay .
Post-graduate students explained that writing NET is far more difficult as it is conducted at National Level. However, since SLET is conducted at state level, the chances of passing are much brighter. SLET was conducted last In Tamil Nadu 2years ago. After that there has been no SLET. They demanded that SLET should be conducted twice year just like NET
