Public grievance meeting: Complaint that being forced to vacate residence for over 30 years!

A petition was submitted to the district collector at the grievance meeting that an affected grop of people, living in a particular land over the last 30 years, are being forced to vacate by the Railway Officials who claim that to be an unclaimed land(purmpokku).

Weekly grievance meetings are conducted at the Vellore Collector’s Office every Monday. Accordingly, a grievance meeting was conducted on Monday, 20th April.

Vellore Collector, Mr. R. Naqndhagopal, presided.

Over 500 petitions were received concerning job loan assistance, Financial assistance, ration cards, assistance for differently-abled, pensions for senior citizens, and land ownership certificate (vettu mania patta).

On receipt of these petitions, Collecotr ordered the concerned officials to take immediate remedial actions.

  • In a petition submitted by a group of 50 persons from Suvalpettai, Arkonam, it was mentioned that they have been working as daily labourers over the last 30 years.We possess all the residential proofs such as Ration cards, Voter IDs, Aadhar cards, and bank savings accounts.
  • A Railway surveyor, on taking survey of the land, reported that there were more than 400 houses in the unclaimed land. Subsequently, Railway authorities gave a 7-day time limit asking these people to vacate. They requested that immediate action to be taken to issue ownership certificates for their area (veettu mania patta).
  • In a petition submitted by the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association, it was requested that solar-powered deep bore-wells should be sunk in the village of Poonkulam ( under Aalankaym Complex in Vaniyambadi Taluk) for the wild animals in the forest area with help from the district administration. This will help the growth & preservation of forests and also prevent straying of wild animals in residential areas.
  • In a petition given by Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association, it was mkentioned that in the Vaniyambadi Taluk Office, only 1 Assistant Tasildar is functioning in place of 4 allotted Taluk Assistant Officers. This makes it very difficult to attend to public grievances. Hence suitable action must be taken to appoint more Assistant Taluk Officers.
  •     In a petition submiited by Mr. Asokan, who belongs to Wallaja Taluk Sambasivapuram village, he explained after submitting a petition along with his family to the collector. He is working in the Central Security Police Force. He has been living along with his wife Valarmathi, and son Ritish (age 12) in Sambasivapuram. On 17thApril, when Ritish was studying in the evening just outside the house,  a person Sarathkumar who was driving a car hit Ritish. Ritish died subsequently. Sarathkumar who escaped from the scene, could not be traced yet. A complaint has been registered at Rathnagiri Police station. So far, no action has been taken. Mr. Asokan requested immediate action.
