Railway ‘under-bridge’ opened in Melalathur!

railThe Railway under-bridge built near Melalathur Railway station near Gudiyatham, built at a cost of Rs. 11.55 Crores, was inaugurated on Moanday, 4th May.

3 passenger trains (covering Arkonam, Bangalore, Chennai-Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Salem) stop at Melalathur station.

Residents of around 30 villages including Melaalthur, Pattu, Koodanagaram, Sothakuppam, Ananganallur, and Singalpadi travel through this station.

As the gates are closed when there is train movement, the public were kept waiting for long hours. There has been a demand over the last several years for a railway over-bridge or under-bridge.

The public appeal was accepted and construction of under-bridge activities started on 28th March, 2013.

The project cost Rs. 11.55 Crores and the under-bridge was 335.825 metreslong & 7.5metres wide. Approach roads of 296 metres length have also been built at either end.

The newly built under-bridge was dedicated for public service on Monday, 4th May.

Taluk Officer, S. Jothi, presided.

All senior local officials participated.
