Riviera 2015 Sports & Cultural festival at VIT University! A report!

Riviera 2015’, the international sports and cultural festival, commenced on 5th February at the VIT University in Katpadi, Vellore.

The festival was inaugurated by the former Indian Cricket Captain, Mr. K. Srikanth. 60000 students from 410 colleges/universities from 15 states of India participated.

A 90-km Marathon run and 102 programmes on sports and culture, and workshops & seminar on 10 different topics were conducted in the festival.

There was a ‘march-past’ ceremony by students from different states. Dance contests and music programme participated by playback singers were also conducted.

The festival was conducted for 4 days form 5th February till yesterday, 9thFebruary when it concluded.

The main theme of the festival was ‘Colours of India’ reflecting India’s ancient culture and secularity.

The concluding programme was conducted yesterday evening . VIT University Chancellor, Mr. Viswanathan presided.

Student coordinator, Ms. Reshmi Naya gave the welcome address. The festival motto was read by a student coordinator.

Noted Hindi film actor, Me. Arjun Kappoor, participated in the event and awarded the cups & prizes for the overall winners in the sports & culture segments. He expressed that he had the desire to continue his studies after visiting VIT. He answered the questions of the students and joined in their singing & dancing. He also took a ‘selfie’ along with them.

Gabon’s Education Councillor, Mr. Montague Ompegu was the Chief Guest.

ALL other senior office-holders of VIT University were present.At the end, student coordinator, Mr. Arun Hiran proposed the vote of thanks.
