A public grievance meeting was conducted at the office of the district collector, Vellore, yesterday (23rd February). It was presided by the district collector, Mr. R. Nandhagopal.
More than 500 petitions were received regarding various issues such as free plot patta, financial assistance for differently-abled, old age pension, etc.
The collector ordered the relevant officials to take immediate necessary action.
Free plot patta:
In the petition given by the residents of Vembur village, Wallaja Taluk, they have represented that they have been living in the ‘purampokku’ (unclaimed) land overt the last 30 years.There are 30 families. As they are daily wage-earners, they have requested issue of free plot patta for this land. As no action has been taken so far, they have requested immediate action.
Free goats-cows
In the petition submitted by the public residents of Pulimedu in Anicut Taluk, they have informed that a decision was taken to give free goats/cowsa to 53 persons during the previous ‘Grama Sabha’ meeting. However, only 36 persons have been given. They have requested that arrangement must be made to distribute cows/goats to the balance 17 persons/families.
Compound wall of old building to be removed
In a petition submitted by K. Rajkumar, it is mentioned that there is a compound wall of an old building near his house. Some anti-socail elements have been indulding in black magic activities using that wall. Even the building is misused for anti-social activities. A lot of drunken people assemble and indulge in indecent activities. The women & children area are afraid to cross this road. Hence, action must be taken to remove the wall.
Handing over of certificates
An aged person, Mr. Marimuthu, along with his family represented to the collector that there are over 2000 families living in the village of Mudur. 40 families belonging to his community live there. The people from other community do not allow these families to live by indulging in destroying the houses. Several complaints were registered with the police. No action has been taken. His community people have thus been subjected to extreme hardship.
They are treated like slaves. There is no security for their lives and properties. Hence, he was prepared to surrender his proof as citizen, the documents like ration card, Aadhar card, and caste certificate and proceeded to hand it over to the collector.This caused some excitement.
The collector promised immediate corrective action and advised the person to take the documents back.
Welfare assistance worth Rs. 7 Lakhs
Mr. Shanmugam, a citizen of Arundhathi colony in SIPCOT Emerald Nagar, had ldied with heavy breathing problems while cleaning of the effluent tank of the tannery plant falling in the tank..
The collector handed over the government’s compensation of Rs. 7 Lakh PF to his wife Kalpana and children Sathya & Sandhiya.
