A special summary revision of electoral rolls of Assembly constituencies with 1 January, 2014 as the qualifying date has been announced by The Election Commission of India.
The Commission also announced a schedule in this regard. On 1 October this year draft roll would be published. From 1 October to 31 October claims, objections (inclusion, deletion, correction and change in address) would be held.Reading of the relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in Gram Sabha/Local Bodies and RWA meeting and verification of names would be taken up between 2 October and 5 October this year. Special campaign with booth level agents political parties from receiving claims and objections would be taken up on 6, 20 and 27 October. The final publication of rolls would be done on January 6 next year.
All those who are 18 years on 1 January next year are eligible to submit applications for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. Applications could also be filled for deletion, correction, and change in the address within a constituency. The electoral photo identity cards for those whose name are included would be given at a function to be held on the occasion of the National Voters Day on 25 January next year at polling station locations.
A meeting with the representatives of the recognized political parties was held by the Chief Electoral Officer on Wednesday. All the recognized political parties have been requested to appoint booth level agents for the parts for which they have not been appointed. The details of booth level agents appointed by each party will be hosted in the CEO`s website after they are appointed.
