A meeting of the students of 6th Standard during the year 1954-55 at the government High school at Nellorepettai, Gudiyatham was conducted at VIT on Sunday, 3rd May.
VIT Chancellor, Mr. G Viswanathan, presided over the function and addressed the gathering.
Our country has implemented the programme to admit 100% students in school.
However, the efforts undertaken by the state governments to improve the standards of school education are not sufficient.
34 developed nations in the world have accorded top priority to education.
73 countries have failed to give the required priority to education. Surveys show that India stands at the 72nd place.
There should be a dramatic change in this situation.
Central & state governments should come forward to take all immediate action to improve the standards of education. All vacancies for teachers’ posts in all schools must be filled with qualified and trained teachers.
Old Students’ Associations must be formed in every school. Old students of the schools should join together to help their Alma Mater to develop the standards by making all necessary arrangements.
VIT has adopted some constituencies in Vellore district and has been implementing the scheme of offering higher education for poor students. 861 students have benefited so far.
VIT has planned to expand on the scheme by adopting all the 13 constituencies in Vellore district and implement the scheme. This will facilitate meritorious poor students to pursue higher education.
A special publication marking the occasion was released.
Several senior officials including MLA and senior academicians participated.
