Tamil Nadu government sells 36000 tons of crystal salt in a year!

salt1Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation Managing Director, Mr. Kamaraj, informed that the company had sold 36000 tons of crystal salt at lower prices.

An awareness training programme on the effects of iodine shortage in salt and the benefits of using iodised salt was conducted on Thursday, 11th June on behalf of the Vellore company.

Managing Director Mr. Kamaraj inaugurated the programme conducted for the cooperatives workers and he addressed the gathering:

Salt Corporation has been distributing high-quality salt for the public over the last 30 years.

Awareness about the benefits of iodised salt has also been carried out.

‘Amma Salt’, a scheme initiated by the Tamil nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, is being sold to the public at lower prices.

3 varieties – iodised salt, iodine & iron  rich salt, and low sodium content salt – are being sold.

The salt plays an important role in building memory power, brain growth, control of anaemia, and control of diabetes.

Tamil Nadu government’s salt is sold at a price of Rs. 3.50 per kg  for a total of 36000 tons in a year.

The salt is also being sold to neighbouring states like Andhra, Karnataka, and Puducherry.

So far, 4000 tons of ‘Amma’ salt has been sold.

A higher target for sales has been set.

With the use of government’s iodised salt, 10 kinds of diseases can be prevented and cured.

Awareness programmes are being conducted to highlight these benefits.

The training is given to district PDS (Public Distribution system) officials.

Mr. Kamaraj informed that in the 2nd phase, awareness programme will be conducted for the Fair-price shop assistants in 11 districts .

The awareness programmes will be conducted for 18 days in different venues starting from Thursday, 11th June.

Local senior officials participated.
