Teachers protest against in delay in payment for correcting answer-sheets!

TeachersTeachers from Ambur who participated in the correction of answer-sheets protested on Monday night (27th April) against the delay in payment for correcting answer-sheets.

The answer-sheet corrections for 10th Standard Public Examinations were being carried out at the Ambur Hindu High School.

Over 1000 teachers from areas such as Arkonam, Ranipettai, Vellore, Gudiiyatham and other nearby areas were engaged in correction of answer-sheets.

These teachers were given 15 answer-sheets in the forenoons & 15 answer-sheets in the afternoon for corrections. Thus, they were asked to correct 30 answer-sheets in a day.

The teachers were to be paid at the rate of Rs. 6/- per answer-sheet. The teachers who were employed for this would get Rs. 180/- per day.

This money was not paid to the teachers who were engaged during the last 1 week.

Usually, the answer-sheet correction starts at 8.00 AM and gets over by 5.00 PM.

However, the job got completed by the afternoon on Monday, 27thApril. The teachers were set to retun to their residences.

However, the payment for having corrected answer-sheets up to 8.30 PM was not made. Hence, the teachers indulged in a protest.

An official from the answer-sheet correction centre explained that there was a power cut in the school between 11.00 Am & 4.00 PM. Hence, the details of the work progress could not be entered in the computers. This led to delay in making payments.

From the teachers’ side, they explained that on every day, the details of the number of answer-sheets corrected should be registered. This was not done and the excuse of power failure was given. Moreover, teachers from other places were being harassed.

Women teachers were anxious about how to return home after late hours working. They told that the department of education should have planned earlier and also should have ensured prompt entry of data on the computers.

The payment was given only after 8.45 PM.

The teachers then returned to their places.
