All India Primary School Teachers’ unions’ Federation secretary V. Annamalai informed today that the teachers are set to go on a token strike for 1 day on 8th October as a mark of protest against the failure of Tamil Nadu Government to act on the various demands several times.

Timely payment has to be disbursed for the teachers employed on contract basis from the date of joining till the contract period. As per the election promises made during 2011 election, Tamil Nadu should revoke the present pension system and restore the old pension system.
Salary pay-scales also need to be revised. For the middle-level teachers, 2 types of increments are given by the Tamil Nadu government. However, the salary should be on par with whatis paid by the central government for teachers.
Amendment should be made on the Government Order which keeps the Mother Tongue (Tamil) last in the list of subjects and should make it 1st.
Overall 15 demands have been including the above-mentioned and insisting action on these demands; awareness gathering procession was conducted on 8th March in all district headquarters on behalf of JACTO. Fasting strike was conducted on 19th April. Fasting strike was conducted in Chennai on 1st August.
All the above demonstrations and strikes were conducted to draw the attention of Tamil Nadu Government for immediate action but so far, no action has been taken by the government. Hence, pressing on the above demands, JACTO has decided that all teachers will observe 1-day token strike on 8th October.
As per this decision, teachers teaching at all levels and all headmasters totaling more than 3 lakhs should participate in this 1-day token strike.
