Thiruvalam Rajendra Iron Bridge eagerly awaits & longs electric light!!

bridgeVehicle drivers have put up a request for providing electric lighting for the 76-years old Thiruvala Rajendra Iron Bridge, built dueing the British Rule.

An iron bridge was built in 1939 across Ponnai River (also known as Neeva river) located under Thiruvalam City Adminstration in Katpadi Circle, Vellore district.

The bridge was built under the supervision of a British Chief Enginner, Rober Emberson.

The construction started in 1935 using 10 tons of steel/iron equipmentdeploying 1200 workers and was completed in 4 years.

The bridge is now under the control of PWD (Public Works Department).

At that time it was quite modern and became a popular film shooting spot when films were shot with leading stars shooting in the bridge.

Te brige is in the Chennai-Mumbai National Highway. Thousands of vehile are  plying on ths road during nights from & to Thiruvalam, Ammundi, Kemparajapuram, Singarajapuram, BHEL, and Thiruvalam Bus Station.

There is no provision for any electrical lighting in this bridge! It remains literally in the dark! There is a looming risk for accidents to happen. Hence, vehicle drivers have demanded immediate arrangement for electric light fittings for the bridge!
