Following the explosion and bursting of the effluent treatment tank in the tannery plant at SIPCOT, Ranipet, Vellore, 10 workers lost their lives tragically.
The bodies of 10 persons including 9 from North India, were retrieved and sent to their native places.
The body of one local person, Mr. Sampath, of Kannamangalam, was handed over to his relatives.
Enquiries after the incident revealed that the effluent treatment tank had been constructed without proper approval.
A squad of 3 people, headed by the Pollution Controol Department Head, IAS Officer, Mr. Skandan, visited the accident site and conducted inspection.They checked the stagnant water area following the explosion of the effluent treatment tank.
A team of 43 personnel from National Disaster Management Force arrived at the place of accident with facial masks a,d other safety equipment. They started removing the stagnant effluent water with their equipment.
The removed effluent will be taken by a tractor and taken to a forest area where it will be filled in a pit dug for this purpose.
Deputy Collector, Ms. Priyadarshini was present during this operation.
