On Wednesday, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended the implementation of country wide MNP. This will enable the users to retain their mobile numbers without the need for changing it whenever they change the service area anywhere within the country.
At present, subscribers get this service within the same service area. When this pan-India portability is implemented, they can port their numbers across other states also. All the service providers are given notice to implement this service all over the country within six months period. Since the STD charges are almost equal to the local charges, there will not be a big financial loss for the department.
