Passengers travelling long distances generally take bedding equipment for their journey.
As a step to avoid this, rental system for taking bedding items in the train itself was introduced by Indian Railways. However, it was not guaranteed – it mayor may not be available on request.
Now, Indian Railway administration has introduced the facility to book online.
Passengers who have confirmed reservation tickets can register their PNR number in the Railway website.
The charge for 2 blankets & 1 pillow is Rs. 140/-.
The charge for 1 blanket is Rs. 110/-.
Passengers who want have to register 5 hours before the train departure.
As soon as the train departs, the passengers will be given the blankets & pillows. They have to return the same while getting down in their destination railway station. If the journey is cancelled, 20% will be recovered.
Just like bedding items, the passengers can also book South Indian food items and pizzas.
In the 1st phase, Indian railways have introduced this facility in Chennai Central, Egmore, Katpadi & Madurai railway stations.
Indian Railways have planned to extend and impove this facility depending on how well the public utilise this facility and its popularity.
Indian Railways has started negotiations with Social Service organisations on the possibility of providing food at Rs. 60/-.
