Vellore collector, Mr. R. Nandhagopal, distributed free bus-pass cards to the visually-challenged people in Vellore district.
Visually-challenged need to pay only 25% of the bus-fare for long-distance journeys. The bus-passes are given with 75% concession. Free bus-passes are given for travelling within Vellore to the visually-challenged. For other differently-abled patrons, free bus-passes are given up to a certain distance.
All the differently-abled people including the visually-challenged are given fresh free bus-passes every year in a card form.
A total of 3200 differently-ables persons have received this concession.
This free bus-pass is printed and given by the State Transport Corporation.
In this scenario, visually-challenged people demonstrated by blocking the roads on 31st March demanding free bus-passes in the form of a book valid for 5 years and renewed every 5 years.They were promised immediate action after which they dispersed.
As per the advice of district collector, Mr. R. Nandhagopal, free bus-passes in a book format are being printed and distributed to the visually-challenged.
In the office of the differently-abled people in Vellore district, the district collector distributed free bus-passes valid during 2015-126 throughout the district for 716 visually challenged persons.
All local senior officials of concerned departments participated.
