Vellore witnessed incessant showers since Wednesday.

Arakkonam recorded the highest rainfall of 58.30 mm and Arcot, 35.80 mm.

Following the continuous rains, the district administration declared holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday.

Many of the roadsides were slushy forcing pedestrians to share space with moving traffic.

Officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai said that rains might occur in some parts of the district on Friday.

During the 24-hour period ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, Vellore received 22.70 mm rainfall, Ambur – 22 mm, Gudiyatham – 21.30 mm, Sholinghur – 27 mm, Melalathur – 25.40 mm and Kaveripakkam – 32.20 mm.
