The government has released the news item in the gazette about the legal status to Aadhar card which was passed as an act in the parliament.
Now, Aadhar Act has come into effect throughout the country.
The proposal for Aadhar bill was approved on 16th March. Following this, this news regarding Aadhar Act was published in the government gazette on 26th March.
The Act has introduced suggestion of alternative methods for the payment of subsidies to the persons who do not have Aadhar cards.
However, Aadhar card cannot be valid as a citizenship card or for temporary residence proof. Aadhar card can be used for direct repayment of subsidies for the holders in their bank accounts.
The persons who violate Aadhar Act laws will face 1 to 3 years of imprisonment and a penalty payment of Rs. 10000 to Rs. 1 Lakh.
So far, over 99.64 Crore people have Aadhar cards.
The central government has been making use of Aadhar cards for bank transfer of LPG cooking gas subsidies.
Central Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley, recently informed that the central government has saved around Rs. 15000 Crores.
4 states have deployed the usage of Aadhar cards for Public Distribution system for essential commodities. These 4 states have saved up to Rs. 2300 Crores.
