As per the prevailing system, if the reserved train ticket needs to be cancelled before the train departs, it is required to go to the Railway station.If the reservation had been done online, the refund of ticket fare will be electronically transferred to the bank. However, it the train ticket had been reserved at the ticket counter, the passenger would have to go the counter, apply for cancellation and get a refund.
Considering the hardship of the passengers who reserved their tickets in the counters, a new facility is about to be introduced in the 2nd week of the next month. As per this, the passenger can contact the number 139 through cellphone in order to cancel the booking. A software for this facility has been made and tested.
The Railway officials informed that this facility has been introduced for the passengers who procured/reserved tickets through the counters. This would save unnecessary travel & time for these passengers. When the ticket booking is cancelled through the cell phone, maximum refund will be possible .
After contacting 1389 and informing the details, a ‘password; meant for 1-time use (one-time password) will be sent. Once this is confirmed, the ticket will be cancelled.The passengers can then proceed to the refund counter and get the same.
