Installation of self-purification water systems in the Vellore Government Medical Hospital in all wards and operation theatres are in full swing.
Self-purification water systems with proper infrastructure have been installed in all primary health centres in Tamil Nadu in a gradual phase over the last 5 years.
Facilities for solar water-heaters were also provided.
Presently, this scheme is being adopted for all government hospitals.
It has been found that ground water in the areas of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Vellore districts contain large content of fluoride. Hence, the health department undertook the responsibility of arranging purified water for all the government hospitals in these areas.
As a measure, a self-purification water system has been installed in the free dialysis department for diabetics in the Vellore government hospital at a cost of Rs. 50 Lakhs.
This system functions on the basis of the technology as per American Standards for Medical Instruments. Operation theatres stand to get 100% purified water fromthis.
Following this, efforts are under way to install similar systems for the other wards in the hospital.
