Stringent Action from 1st February for Passengers who give Wrong age to avail ‘Senior Citizen’ Claim

indian-railwaysIf any passenger is caught of giving the wrong age detail in order to avail ‘Senior Citizen’ facility, they would be considered as ‘ticket-less travellers’!

This regulation will be effective from 1st February.

A brief on the press release regarding this from Southern Railway:

Travel fare concession is given to different cadres of people like sportsmen with national awards, patients (sick persons), students travelling to write examinations, etc.

This concession is given to the senior citizens of the country as well. In order to avail senior citizen benefit, men have to be above the age of 60 & women will have to be above age of 58.

Women of this age group will get 50% concession whereas men as per the above age group will get 40% concession.

If the passenger is a patient, concession will be given only if the patient is being taken to a hospital in a particular place.

However, senior citizens can avail this facility for travelling for any reasons. The people who claim to be senior citizen need not show any proof of their age while reserving or buying travel tickets.

However, they have to produce & show the proof of age with photograph.

Voters’ ID, Driver’s Licence, Passport, and certificates/documents given by central/state governments, and 7 other documents can be given as proof of age.. These can be shown during the checking at the time of travel. If this is not shown, TTE can charge penalty/fine.

From 1st February, if persons travelling as senior citizens fail to show the correct proof  of age, they will be considered as ticket less travelers despite their reservation tickets and they would be considered as having given the wrong age and penalized.

They will be deemed as ticket-less travelers and penalty will be given accordingly.
