During the grievance meeting organised at the Vellore Collector’s Office on Monday, 30th March, 100s of villagers submitted a petition demanding the issue of ‘veetu masnai patta (Land ownership certificate).
Vellore Collector, Mr. Nandhagopal presided over the meeting.
More than 150 villagers belonging to the Agravaram Perumbadi Colony near Gudiyatham visited the collector’s office. The police stopped them and allowed a few representatives to go in and submit the petition.
The details in the petition:
More than 150 families have been residing at Perumbadi Colony. Though we have been living year well over the past 60 years, the authorities have not taken any action to issue ‘veetu mania patta’ to us. We also indulged in a series of demonstrations in vain. We request that immediate action at least now.
A total of 529 petitions were received on various issues including loans, electricity connection, security, assistance for differently-abled, etc.
The collector passed them to relevant departments ordering immediate action.
A cheque for Rs. 2.15 Lakhs was presented to the family of a person from Muslimpur, Vaniyambadi, who died while working in Saudi Arabia.
9 individuals were given iron boxes costing Rs. 3500/- each. 3 beneficiaries received sewing machines. 100 individuals from Gudiyatham circle were given family cards.
