Communal Harmony & Untouchability eradication efforts in Vepaankuppam

The state government has granted a fund of Rs. 10 Lakhs for Veppankuppam Panchayat for promotion of better communal harmony and initiatives for eradication of untouchability.

 The village is home to close to 3,000 persons belonging to different castes and religions. This included several Adi Dravidar families.

 Located about 35 km from Vellore, the panchayat consisted of nearly 600 houses. Majority of the residents were dependent on agriculture.

 On Monday, Collector R. Nanthagopal handed over the cheque for Rs. 10 lakh given by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department to Mr. Navakrishnan, Panchayat POresident.

 The fund will be utilized to improve civic amenities in the Adi Dravidar residential areas in the Panchayat, and to  lay concrete roads wherever required, construct drainage channels and improve drinking water supply,
