Selection of the Indian team to play in the series against Zimbabwe is to be announced today, Monday, 29th June (today).
It is gathered that both Dhoni & Kohli may be rested.
Indian cricket team is scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on short-term tour next month, 7th July.
The team will play 3 ODIs (scheduled on 10th, 12th, & 14th July) and 2 T-20 matches (scheduled on 17th & 19th July).
The team for this tour is set to eb selected todat at Delhi and announced.
Chairman of the selection committee Mr. Sandip Patil and other members od the selection board will meet today to announce the team.
Due to the successive series of matches played recently and the factor that Zimbabwe is not one of the strong teams, it is gathered that there is a proposal to reast many of the leading players and select youngsters waiting in the wings.
An official disclosed that Kohli & Ashwin are plating in both test matches & ODIs. Captain Dhoni is also overburdened. After the series against Australia, he had played in the world Cup matches and the high-intensity IPL matches. All of the require some rest.
This rest will make all of them Test caprtain Kohli, ODI captian Dhoni, and Ashwin to be fresh and ready for the Sri Lanka test series.
Who is the captain?
With Dhoni & Kohli being rested, it is expected that Rohit Sharma or Suresh Raina will be selected as captain.
As Rohit Sharma leads the champion IPL team Mumbai Indians, he has the better chance to get the captaincy.
Ajinkya Rahane and Robin Uthappa (who has playing well in domestic matches) may get selected. Stewart Binny, Ambati rayudu, and Mohit Sharma will continue to be in the team.
Harbhajan Singh & Pervez Rasul are in contention for the spinner’s place.
Earlier, there were doubts whether the Zimbabwe series will be played due to the problems between Ten Sports & BCCI.
However, there was a discussion between BCCI & Zimbabwe cricket officials diring the ICC annual meeting conducted in Barbados when this problem was solved amicably.
This confirmed that India-Zimbabwe series will be played.
