Several public buildings have not been officially opened in Arkonam though construction was completed months ago.
Social enthusiasts are disappointed that the building are lying unused and articles may have gone out of order.
A new building combining 2 registration offices which were functioning at 2 different locations was built at a cost of Rs. 1.45 Crores.
Offices of the District registrar, the office for registration – 1, and office for registration -2, were function here. Though 1 year is over, it has not started.
A gas-operated cremation platform costing Rs. 68 lakhs was set up 2 years ago when the foundation stone was laid 4 years ago. It is yet to start functioning.
A hostel for girl students was built at a cost of Rs. 1.5 Crores near Arkonam Government Girls’ High School 2 years ago for the backward community students. It is still to be opened.
‘Amma unavagam’ was set up in the Vellore Old Bus Terminus at a cost of Rs. 25 Lakhs. Now, 5 months are over. It is yet to open.
Other building which are yet to function include 11th ward activity stage building in Arkonam, 3 fair price shops, the toilet at the Taluk Office, etc.
Public feel disgusted that buildings built at huge costs lying neglected without use! There is scope for these buildings to decay if lying unused. Paintings, the machineries and equipment inside may become useless. Social enthusiasts feel that the state government and the local corporation should jointly take efforts to restore and use them.
MLA S ravi promised that this will be brought to the notice of the state government immediately for action.
